Description

This pair of authentic WWII-era German military shoulder boards represents the rank of Major (Heer or Luftwaffe). The boards feature the characteristic triple-braided silver-aluminum cord, a hallmark of field-grade officer insignia from the period. The cords are mounted on a vibrant yellow felt underlay, known as 'Waffenfarbe,' which traditionally designated specific branches of service. In the Wehrmacht (Army), yellow was the branch color for Cavalry, Reconnaissance, and Signal troops, while in the Luftwaffe, it signified Flight and Paratroop units. The construction is typical of mid-war production, utilizing high-quality materials designed for both field and dress uniforms. These examples are presented in good vintage condition, exhibiting a natural aged patina on the silver bullion braiding. There is minor fraying visible on the cordage of one board and light surface wear to the felt backing, which is consistent with period use and long-term storage. These insignia serve as significant historical artifacts, essential for serious collectors of Third Reich militaria, uniform accouterments, and WWII-era military history. Their well-preserved state and clear branch identification make them a desirable addition to any advanced collection.
