Description
This lot features an authentic WWII-era German Mother's Cross, officially known as the Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter, in the Bronze Class (3rd Class). Established in 1938, this state decoration was bestowed upon German mothers for exceptional merit to the nation, specifically for bearing and raising four or five children. The medal is designed as a slender, long-armed Christian cross featuring translucent blue enamel over a guilloché base, bordered by opaque white enamel. At the center is a circular medallion with a black enamel swastika on a white field, encircled by the embossed bronze inscription "DER DEUTSCHEN MUTTER" (To the German Mother). Stylized rays emanate from the center between the arms of the cross. This example is presented with its original blue and white striped ribbon. The bronze-finished metal exhibits a natural aged patina, while the enamel work remains well-preserved with no significant chips or cracks visible. The ribbon shows minor fraying at the terminal ends, consistent with age and period handling. This piece represents a significant historical artifact of the era's social and political history, suitable for serious militaria collectors.
