Description

This 1934 'Tag der Arbeit' (Labor Day) badge is a significant piece of historical memorabilia from the Third Reich era. Struck in a bronze-toned base metal, the circular tinnie features a high-relief design rich in period symbolism. At the center is the profile of a worker, flanked by the traditional symbols of labor: a hammer and a sickle. Below these elements sits the Reichsadler, the national eagle, clutching a wreathed swastika. The upper perimeter is inscribed with the German text 'TAG DER ARBEIT,' while the year '1934' is positioned at the base. This specific design was issued to commemorate the national holiday of labor in May 1934. The badge exhibits a deep, aged patina with some visible surface oxidation, particularly on the left side near the hammer, which adds to its authentic character. The striking remains crisp, with clear definition in the facial features and the feathers of the eagle. Such badges were commonly worn on lapels during state-sanctioned celebrations. This item represents a collectible piece for historians and specialists in mid-20th-century European political and social history. It is a well-preserved example of the iconography used during this period to unify labor and national identity.
